If I didn't use song lyrics as titles to my posts, I would totally call this post "Here Be Turkeys". These pictures were all taken on our wild turkey escapade last weekend. Joe and I had decided to stop in our favorite park on the way home from spending most of the day working at the local coffeeshop, since we needed to stretch our legs and get a bit of sunshine. We ended up romping through the woods for a good part of the late afternoon, chasing (and running from!) about half a dozen turkeys, searching the woods for early-season morels (more on that later!), and appreciating the late spring sunshine.
This dress seems to get shorter every time I wash it (that's the problem with not separating my laundry, I guess...everything goes in one load, and in the dryer, no matter the color, fabric, or special instructions). It's decidedly no longer work appropriate, but I love how it looks paired with my favorite sweatshirt for a productive spring Saturday. I'm also really happy with these Steve Madden boots. I've already worn them at least a couple dozen times, and they just get more comfortable with each wear. Plus, they seem to go with everything! What I really love about ankle boots, too, is that they'll remain practical for much of the summer, except for the hottest days. I can definitely get behind a four-season shoe!
The day, and our little exploratory walk, was just perfect. Joe was still frantically trying to work on his final papers, and I've been taking the weekends to get work done on my consulting job. And as nice as it feels to be super productive and work all day, it's twice as nice to get to blow off some steam afterwards. So a silly romp through the woods was just what we needed.
We've also been on a bit of a cooking spree lately, which I love. We seem to go through frozen-pizza stages (i.e. the chunks of time when you can't be bothered to prepare anything but a frozen pizza for dinner, no matter how much you might want a home cooked meal), but we also go through stages of cooking fabulous dinners, and really savoring and appreciating our food. After our turkey walk, we stopped at the co-op and bought the fixings for a red beet and leek risotto. It was incredibly delicious, incredibly red, and a lovely ending to a long, productive day.
Days like these strike the perfect balance for me. I love the feeling that I'm actually getting something done, but I need the freedom and flexibility of a bit of unstructured time, preferable outside in the sun. Pair that with a lovely meal with a handsome gent, and I'm pretty much good to go.
How do you find balance during the weekends? For those of you who are students, or have irregular work schedules, how do you juggle productivity and free time? Have you ever chased wild turkeys?
Also, if you were wondering where in the world all this loveliness took place, I'll tell you: we found the Shire!
