Sometimes, I don't believe Joe. Not "I don't believe in him", because that I do, wholeheartedly. But rather, I don't always believe the things that come out of his mouth when he speaks. This is because he makes rather grandiose statements sometimes, mostly regarding his abilities and general awesomeness. He'll say things like, "I can just feel when and where we should look for morels. I always find them. I just know they're there." And while I'm nearly bursting with protestations (Who can just know where to find morels?!?? How can you just feel it??!? This has got to just be a load of b.s...), he proves himself right. Every time.
Last weekend was one of those times. We had just gotten home from an outing to the mall (ah! I'm turning suburban!), and he proposed a quick walk through the woods, because it "felt right". What kind of nonsensical crap is this? I thought to myself. But malls wear me out, so I was happy to have an excuse to trek through the forest. And sure enough, we almost immediately started coming across the tell-tale caps of the morel mushroom. Dozens of them. Everywhere. He knew.
I don't know how he knew, and I've decided it's in my best interest to stop questioning it, because ultimately, it means I get to eat dozens of melt-in-your-mouth, more-perfect-than-god morels. We've eaten morels everyday for three days now, and I think my life is just a little bit better than it was before. The sun seems brighter, flavors seem more intense (though that's almost definitely just the morels...), and colors seem more vivid (I think they were just morels, though maybe a few rogue hallucinogenic mushrooms got thrown into the mix...). Anyway, I think I've learned to trust his instincts, at least when it comes to fungus detection. Better to leave that to the experts, anyway.
Also, on a completely unrelated note (although, now that I think about it, the ranting about mushrooms in a style blog might actually be the unrelated bit...), let's all take a moment to ogle the lovely perfection that is this necklace. I was wildly excited to find out that I won the Morgan necklace from Tree & Kimball from Morgan and Lua's one-year anniversary contest (see my entry here). I have a few T&K pieces already, but was lacking a lace necklace, and I'm more than happy to add this beauty to my collection. I've already styled it up a few times, and just adore the length, color, design, and weight. It's gorgeous. I decided to style its debut outfit simply, with my new favorite jeans and a sinfully soft cropped tee, to let the loveliness of the necklace shine.
I'm sorry this post was a bit out of left field. However, consider yourselves warned that I may wax poetic about mushrooms again soon. I took a lot of pictures of our fungal finds, and plan to share them soon, as well as report back on the utter deliciousness of our morel linguine dinner. Oh, and suffice it to say that Joe has won my trust. He can take me mushroom-hunting anytime. :)
