Blouse: harvested from Emily's giveaway pile * Skirt: Old Navy, remixed * Wedges: American Eagle, remixed * Belt: Target, remixed
This outfit seems to harken to my early days of blogging, right as I was discovering that high-waisted skirts are insanely flattering and that I could re-fashion certain unloved pieces out of my closet and turn them into wardrobe staples (like this skirt, which I loved but rarely wore until I figured out how fabulous it looks in the summer, like this). It's a lot like some of the summer outfits I was wearing about a year ago (minus the arm cast); light tank tops and blouses tucked into loose, flowy summer skirts. Perfect for mercury-smashing temperatures.
I'm all out of whack this morning about what day it is. Taking a long weekend was fantastic, and it's that much sweeter to have a four-day work week. Our weekend away was really lovely. The wedding was just beautiful. It was awesome to meet some of Joe's oldest friends, and so touching to watch the lovely ceremony. I know everyone says this, but it is so powerfully wonderful to watch the groom's face as everyone walks down the aisle. Of course, his face upon seeing the bride was priceless, but equally heartfelt was how he looked when he saw his siblings and parents come down the aisle. It was truly moving. Seeing the father-of-the-groom bust out some moves to "Whoomp! (There it is)" was equally spectacular. Weddings are the best.
Taking pictures with Emily around means that I now spin around like a lunatic and pick the nose of child murals. Don't judge.
The rest of the weekend was really wonderful, too. It was really nice to explore the cities together and have some time just the two of us. Especially since Joe is moving this weekend, we're really motivated to enjoy whatever together-time that we have. I hope I don't sound too sad about Joe's upcoming move (don't worry, Mom!). I'm really, really excited about this next phase. We were talking about it yesterday in the car, and we realized that for all of the time that we've been together, we've been thinking about what comes next, and where we'll be, and what we'll be doing. This is the first part of a phase in which we'll actually get to settle down and stay somewhere for awhile, actually doing the things that we have wanted to do for so long. It's a really nice feeling. I didn't realize how excited I was to settle down (not in the marriage-kids-mortgage way, but in the stay-in-one-place-for-more-than-a-couple-of-years-and-start-a-real-career way) until I realized that it was starting to happen. We have a bit of a transition first, what with the long distance and the weekend commuting, but just knowing where things are headed feels so wonderful.
