Welcome to the "answers" portion of the BLD FAQ! I'm separating up your questions into a couple of separate posts, based on the sort of general themes you ended up asking about. Today, since it's his last day in Chicago, I figured we'd tackle the question of Joe. Who is he? What makes him tick? What's that beard all about, anyway?*
Emily asked:
Let's see. Tell us something about Joe. It seems like he's a fun guy who actually gets into your blog world. How does Joe take part in your blogging and fashion-related life? What's the best style advice Joe has ever given?
Joe has been absolutely awesome with supporting my new (although I guess it's not so new now!) internet hobby. My interest in fashion was never something that was very evident before I started this blog, I don't think. I had personal style, to be sure, but never an outright interest in fashion, especially to those who don't know me (which is still the case now, I guess). Funny story, actually: when we first met, we were having to get ID pictures taken. I was wearing this crazy plaid grandpa cap (think The Newsies, only pastel), and I was messing with it for the picture. He saw me doing it and thought I was a bit silly and didn't understand why I cared so much about the hat. Of course, he later learned how important it is to get the perfect jaunty angle when wearing a plaid cap.** Anyway, Joe has been really supportive of the blog. He immediately recognized how good it was for me to be connecting with a group of wonderful women, and how much stronger my self-esteem has become since starting this project. He's become, over the past year and a half, my favorite photographer. He knows my angles, he gets the best lighting, and he is unbelievably patient with my need to take three dozen pictures, of the same outfit, in the same spot. He makes that part of blogging fun. Best style advice he ever gave me? That I look the most beautiful in a simple t-shirt and jeans.
Katie asked:
I'd also like to hear about Joe! Specifically, how did you two meet (those are my favorite stories!)?
Gina asked:
How did you guys meet? How long have you been together?
Joe and I met while we were students in the same graduate program. We had a few classes together, and the program was small, so we became close friends almost immediately (after the jaunty cap fiasco). We didn't actually start dating until over a year after we met, now almost two years ago (woah). We don't really have an anniversary, though. We know, generally, when we started to be official, but it's more a month (September) than a date.

I'd love to hear about Joe, too. And any future plan updates!
Ha! Because I've been so delinquent in responding to these FAQs, I've already kind of spilled the beans about future plans. Joe is moving tomorrow (yikes!) to pursue more graduate school fun. I'll eventually move as well, but not immediately. But "about Joe" in general? Joe is a nerd. A big, wonderful, kind, smart, loving, nerd. He reads school books when he's not in school. He plays Text Twist while I upload photos to Flickr. He is unequivocally the smartest man I know (next to my dad...). He has a wonderful smile, though he gets a bit Chandler-esque when it's time for photos. He has spent much of the summer taking 6-10 mile walks to and through the city. He's tall (6'2"). He's Midwestern, and knows about things like hot dish and breeds of cow. He has a t-shirt with two cows on it...one says "moo" and the second says "deja moo". He's an Eagle Scout in awesome.
Gina asked:
Do you and Joe still brew your own beer? How did you get into doing that?
Yes, we still brew, although there has been/will be a bit of a hiatus with his move. It's hard to transport carboys full of wort. Joe used to brew with his other roommates while he was in college, and talked a lot about getting back into it. I always loved the idea, and my dad used to brew when I was a kid, so I have fond, albeit smelly, memories of the whole beer-brewing process. We finally got around to getting all the supplies together and really starting about a year ago. It's been such a fun hobby, and so awesome and rewarding to go from a few simple ingredients to four cases of great beer. I'm excited to get started again after he moves!
Thanks for all the questions, ladies! I know it's taken me forever to do this post, but I'll hopefully follow up with the second answers post soon. In the meantime, if any other burning questions come up, you can still ask them (either in a comment on this post, or the original BLD call for questions).
*Okay, so nobody asked about the beard. He didn't have the beard when we first met, but started growing it out a little while after we got together. It has since ranged in length, width, depth (and other measurements as well!), but is always red, super badass, and a little bit like a Norse god.
**They ended up making me take the cap off for the picture anyway. Bit waste of jauntiness.
