I like how totes relaxed I seem in these pictures (p.s. I might start saying "totes" a lot instead of "totally". We watched I Love You, Man this week and now there are a million and one ridiculous things I want to say all the time). And honestly, I totes was relaxed. Hanging out lakeside on one of the last days of summer? Sign me up.
What's that on my shoe?? I'mma pick at it while Emily takes my picture.
I have such a soft spot for outfits like this. Cutoff jean shorts, a loose tank top, a comfy cardi, and awesome Toms totally make for a fabulously cozy summer outfit. And it's an outfit that I would have worn even before I started blogging. My style, while remaining totally true to me, has definitely morphed since I started Between Laundry Days, and there are certain outfits that I pick out more for my readers' benefit than that of the people I actually see in person throughout the day (this definitely isn't true all the time, but it's an undeniable component of choosing to post your daily outfits online). This outfit, however, is perfectly me. I'm sure it's no coincidence that I wore it when I was meeting lots of new (non-fashion blogger) people. I tend to revert back to comfortable styles when I'm in new situations, and this was no different. I may have felt self-conscience with these new friends had I showed up in trouser shorts, socks with oxfords, and a sassy embellished blouse, even if it would have been a big hit on the blogosphere.
It's no secret, I don't think, that your environment affects what you wear (and, conversely, I firmly believe that what you wear can affect the environment that you're in), but I find it to be an absolutely fascinating relationship. My thoughts the other week about how I adjust my sartorial choices so as to not disrupt the balance in my office had to do with this as well. For me, the world outside my wardrobe plays a major part in contributing to my day-to-day stylistic choices. I'll be bolder and brasher in a big city, more refined and subdued when meeting new people, trend-conscious in my workplace, and trend-embracing on my days off. How do you interpret your environment through your clothing? Do any of you have any specific examples or thoughts about how this relationship plays out for you? I'm dying to hear your thoughts on this one.
Completely unrelated to the content of this post, I reveal my massive gooberosity.
