Many of you have been hustling me for an update on Joe any my community garden plot. I like to make good on promises, so I toted my camera to the garden this weekend and snapped away at our happy little (big!) veggies. Take a peek...
The plot. It's about 20'x25', so we have loads of space to plant everything we could desire; beets, carrots, chard, tomatoes, squash, green beans, herbs...
My basil and thyme plants, though still quite puny, seem to be thriving.
Tomatoes! I have big plans for sauces, salads, canning, and, of course, eating raw and fresh (after all, there's only two things that money can't buy, and that's true love and home grown tomatoes).
Dealing with pests has been a big part of the process, of course. Joe was dutifully weeding while I took pictures. We also have a potato beetle infestation, which has hopefully been taken care of this week with some organic, though effective, spraying.
From top to bottom: swiss chard, winter squash, green beans, and chioggia beets
Carrots! We got to pull and eat one already! Yum!
Happy feet.
Title song: Guy Clark (or the fabulous cover by Dan Hicks), "Home Grown Tomatoes" (the link to the YouTube video is here)
