Happy Monday!! I'm just in a lovely mood this morning, due in no small part to my gloriously perfect weekend. I know I've talked about Joe and my opposite work schedules before, and how we rarely had any real time off together. Well, I'm not sure if I've mentioned this already, but he quit his job a couple of weeks ago to prepare for the next phase of his life (more on that later this summer!), and all of a sudden we have weekends again! Lazy Saturday mornings, Sunday brunch, picnics on the beach, and all the fun free weekend stuff that a Chicago summer has to offer! It's been an absolute delight having him around again, and it feels like we're right back in the honeymoon phase of our relationship. So in addition to all the fun activities, events, and great food that I got to enjoy this weekend, it was so much more enjoyable since I got to experience it all with him.
So, speaking of events, one of our dear friends graduated this past weekend. I'm not always one for graduations. They're long, sometimes quite tedious, and seem like a bunch of unnecessary pomp (and circumstance!) for something that could be celebrated just as easily with a dinner party, or picnic, or congratulatory brunch. But this one was totally worth it, partly because Joe and I knew just how much work and effort it took for her to finish this particular degree, and it was awesome to see her walk across the stage with her diploma. We spent pretty much all of Saturday celebrating with her, her family, and a bunch of our friends and coworkers. And despite the torrential rain and generally shoddy weather, it was a wonderful day.
In addition to the general graduation festivities, we went out to dinner with our friend and her family and oh. my. god. that was some good food. It was one of those fancy meals where you linger over every course, have absolutely delectable food, and go through more wine than is probably appropriate for six people. I was totally smitten with everything on my plate, but the dessert really needs to be highlighted. I'm honestly amazed that I had room to eat dessert at all, since we had already been eating for over 2 hours, but I couldn't resist the "passion fruit floating island" that was brought to my place. Creme fraiche with passion fruit custard, surrounded with orange passion fruit syrup and topped with the thinnest pistachio wafer I've ever seen. Good gravy that was good eatin'!
Now I know that this post has gone on for awhile already, but I have to take a moment to mention my outfit. Shabby Apple Dresses was kind enough to send me a one of their lovely dresses to wear and review. I picked the San Gabriel dress, which I totally fell in love with when I saw the military-esque button detailing. It's really a gorgeous dress, and I think it will be perfect for special occasions throughout the summer (I'm trying to figure out how I can stretch it into the colder months, since it's unlined and pretty thin, but it will be ideal for summertime!). And best of all, Between Laundry Days readers can use the code "Betweenlaundrydays10off" to get 10% off any purchase from Shabby Apple!! They have great designs that seem to effortlessly walk the line between trendy and timeless. (Please note that I've found that their dresses run a bit large. I ordered and XS, which is usually a bit too small for me, and it fits with a bit of extra room, so keep that in mind when ordering!) Happy shopping!

This San Gabriel dress was provided to me by Shabby Apple in exchange for an honest review of the product.
