On the Winding A-Roads

I'm such a fan of this southwest-inspired outfit! I don't often go for this vibe, but I thought I'd play off of the print on this Target dress to add a hint of the wild west to my day. I thrifted this vest with Emily, and while I think it will look cool with jeans and a flowy, colorful tank top later in summer, I love it as a layering piece with this outfit. Joe and I spent a colossal amount of time going through my closet this week (as a small but crucial first step to my simplify-my-life aspirations), and we weeded out a bunch of pieces that aren't right anymore, clearing out a lot of space for my other stuff to shine. So when I opened my closet to figure out what to wear on top of this dress, this great linen vest was hanging front and center. Hooray, organization!

I also really like how this red braided leather belt compliments everything and pulls the whole outfit together. This dress is so fun, and so pretty, but it has a lot of strong colors that I don't usually wear. I'm not often a bright turquoise kind of gal, much less fuschia and pink, so I was trying to focus on accessories that would highlight the parts of the dress that felt more "me". There actually are hints of true red scattered throughout the pattern, so I decided that this wonderful belt (from Little Ocean Annie's Etsy shop!) would be the perfect thing to draw the eye to those colors that I'm a bit more comfortable with. And these wedges, god love 'em, are gonna see me through many an outfit this season!

Cleaning out my closet was really cathartic. I think sometimes I forget about some of the pieces that I really love, and I stick with things that are just okay. Making a point to prioritize the parts of my wardrobe that I'm over the moon for was a great start to my simplification project. Part of the goal of all of this is to remove clutter from my life, whether in the form of unworn clothing, unhealthy food, unproductive habits, unnecessary spending, or literal clutter. I'm going to be working hard to focus my life around the things that I truly get the most pleasure out of, and I'm going to make a concerted effort to find more of those things in my life. If that means joining a book club, going to yoga, or cooking my way through the Moosewood cookbook, then so be it. It's going to be a process, but I'm super optimistic about it, and I'm really excited to have Joe along for the ride. I think it's going to be a fabulous summer!
