More pictures from my weekend in Austin, y'all! We had an incredibly full weekend, playing and thrifting and eating and having a fabulous time. One night (Saturday?) we went out to the Congress Avenue Bridge to watch the millions of bats that fly out from under the bridge every night. Austin has the largest urban bat colony (whenever I hear this I imagine a tiny bat city, with upside-down skyscrapers and tiny businessbats), and from March until November they swarm out every night at dusk. They flew out a little bit after dark this time, so it was extra dark and spooky, but so cool!
We took these pictures before the sun set, in the "golden hour" (that golden hour is creeping closer and closer to when I get off of work in Chicago, so you had better enjoy these pictures while you've got 'em, 'cause I'm going to be forced to take nighttime or indoors pictures before you know it). I knew I wanted to wear this dress while I was in Austin. It's so simple and easy, and perfect for varying temperatures (it was anywhere between 55 and 85 degrees while I was there), and the little ruffle and button detailing on the bodice keeps it interesting. I'd been wanting to pair it with my awesome lace-up boots and gray socks for awhile, and I love how it turned out. Sassy and trendy, yet casual and comfortable. Perfect for bat watching and late-night barbecue.
I found these sunglasses and earrings at a vintage shop in Austin. I love the granny glasses, and totally plan to wear them constantly (or as constantly as the sunlight in Chicago allows). The earrings are just crazy, and I'm kind of obsessed with them. They're seed pods, I think, or something organic and weird like that, strung on a silver hoop. Within a few hours of wearing them, I had at least three strangers tell me that they were awesome. Which they are. They seem handmade, and I'm wondering if they're from a local, Texas-based designer. They came with a tag from the designer, so I'm going to have to do some research to find out. There were a few other pieces with the same tag on them, and all of them had the same fabulous organic design and materials.
Oh yeah, one last thing. That picture up there? I'm giving the thumbs up because after about 5 minutes and 30 photos, my sister and I realized that there was a homeless guy, possibly with tuberculosis (coughing like crazy - I'm not sure how we didn't notice him right away) right behind me. Awesome. Though, to Austin's credit, their homeless population is pretty sassy, so maybe he should have made an appearance on the blog after all.
