I stayed home from work yesterday and ended up spending a lot of time thinking about my life (dangerous business). I thought about how I prioritize things, what I do when I start getting busy, how I deal with things when I'm feeling run-down or deflated. The verdict is that when left to my own devices, I don't deal particularly well with challenges and hard days (or weeks or months). I retreat into myself, which often leaves little room for pulling myself together and out of my funk.
One of the things that Joe asks me to do when I'm frustrated and talking about feeling despondent is to list three positive things about the day. At the moment, it always frustrates me further for a second; my instinct to wallow is strong. But he insists, and I list my three good things, and it somehow magically throws things into perspective. The power of positive thinking, I guess. So I'm trying to take a "three good things" approach to life. Do a little bootstrap pulling and look on the bright side. And, more importantly, act on the bright side. Make those three good things happen every day. Consistently think of reasons why what I'm doing (in the moment or in my life) is good.
Speaking of good things, let's talk about this outfit (that's right, I'm not afraid to toot my own horn when I know it's worth tootin'). These pictures were taken over the weekend after Joe and I met up with Elena, Adam, and Elena's sister Anna for lunch on Saturday (more pics to come from our awesome picnic!). I've been obsessed with wearing this outfit ever since I saw Kyla rock it a couple of months ago. I think she looked so fantastic, and this combination has been in my inspiration folder (in my mind...) ever since.
The funny thing is, I have almost each piece from Kyla's original look, just in a different color (though still in the same color palette). I don't have an olive green jacket, but I have a tan one. I don't have tan laceless oxfords, but I have silver ones. I don't have a silver t-shirt, but I have a white one. I don't have a white lace skirt, but I have an olive green one. I mean, it's kind of ridiculous. So anyway, thanks, Kyla, for the continual inspiration, and for adding substantially to my three good things of the day. The other good things that day included eating pumpkin pie on the grass with Elena and baking a big ol' lasagna for Joe. Oh, and celebrating fall by playing in the leaves.
What are your three good things about today?
