So it's official: I'm bored. I love being able to sleep in, and I like that Joe and I get more time together than we used to, but I. am. bored. Other than applying for jobs, I don't really have any obligations right now. This might seem ideal, but it gets old real fast. I'm trying to see the bright side, and I've stayed pretty optimistic through this whole thing, but let's just say it's good we don't keep much alcohol in the house.

I am totally digging today's outfit, though! I have made a mini-resolution to only wear outfits that wouldn't be appropriate for the office. Kind of like, "I wouldn't be able to go in anyway, so I might as well stay home". Better than, "I can't go in so I'm wearing jean shorts instead". But seriously, I was really happy with the way this outfit came together. It was definitely one of those days where I went through a few different variations and combinations before I settled on this, but I feel really good about it. I'm also pretty psyched about the possibilities for pairing these tan knee-highs with a cardigan, big chunky platforms, and a cute dress.

So I probably love these boots more than what would be considered healthy. I have been searching for them for years. I'm surprisingly picky about my boots, and was super specific about the color/style/height/width/material that I wanted for these boots. I found these babies on ShoeTrader.com before they closed their doors for a ridiculous bargain. I bought them in July, though, so they've been spending some quality time in our closet until today, when I finally deemed it appropriate to debut them to the world. They are the most perfect boots ever, and helped me push away some of my post-layoff blues today. But I'm up to my eyes in job applications today, so I'm going to take the rest of the evening to eat some leftover pumpkin chili, listen to Simon and Garfunkel, and snuggle with Joe.

So maxi dresses are pretty much the ultimate "I'm unemployed" wardrobe item. Comfy enough to be pajamas, but just polished enough to tell your mom you really did put in the effort to get dressed this morning. Just barely. And this scarf is kind of like wearing a pillow around your neck, so the pajama-esque feel of this outfit is pretty much spot-on.

I also love how I'm short enough that I need to tie up the bottom of this dress even when I'm wearing it with heels (see the summer version here). Although it did feel particularly appropriate to be wearing these Victorian-inspired lace-up boots with floor-length skirts. I felt almost risque as I was knotting up the hem of the dress, as if I was soooo daring to be exposing my ankles. All I was lacking was a corset. And a feminine haircut, I guess. Nah.

Today's outfit was completely based around comfort. The apartment is cold, hence the cardigan. I was lazy, hence the leggings. This shirt is insanely soft, hence the shirt. I had to go outside once to go to the store, and post office, hence the boots. I'm blind as a bat, hence the glasses. Yes folks, that's right. I wear nerd glasses because I'm a nerd. A blind flippin' nerd. Also it's almost Halloween, which would explain the delightful spiderweb and spider on the window.

I was very slow-going today. Spent most of the day at home baking and hanging out, and this evening I'm making pumpkin chili for me and Joe. I got the idea from Mary at Undergrad Fab (thanks, lady!), and I can't wait to taste it! I also got the chance to update a few items in my Etsy shop, Objects Found. Um, yes. I met Sally of Already Pretty today. She was in town for the weekend and asked if I wanted to get together, so we met up this morning for coffee and shopping at Sal's favorite Evanston boutique, The Mexican Shop. And oh, em, gee, guys, that shop was off the hizook/chizain/other-ridiculous-out-of-character-expression. I fully intend on blowing an entire paycheck there...that is, once I have a paycheck to blow again. And Sally was, of course, incredible. She is freakishly gorgeous, so incredibly kind and funny, and had the most. killer. boots on today. I am so beyond happy to have met her. Thank you so much for such a lovely morning, Sal. We'll do it in the Twin Cities next time!

These gorgeous earrings are one of the few things I allowed myself to buy at The Mexican Shop (along with an adorable - and $12! - pair of black cigarette pants and an obi belt). I adore feather accessories, and especially earrings, but I'm far too clumsy/violent/ridiculous to keep the feathers nice for very long. So it was love at first sight when I saw these silver feather numbers. Perfection.

Today was kind of a day off for Joe and I. It has literally been months since we had time off together, so I have decided to look on the bright side with this whole unemployment thing and enjoy my time with him. So we sat at the kitchen table for most of the day, making jewelry, drinking coffee, eating orange rolls and chips & salsa, and watching season 3 of 30 Rock on Netflix. Alec Baldwin is officially my celebrity crush.

Speaking of Joe, he picked out this dress for me when we were at Target yesterday buying a new bathmat (I know, I know, the thrilling life of the unemployed). He would just not shut up about the colors and pattern and fabric, so I tried it on and loved it. It's not that I don't take his opinion seriously, but sometimes I doubt it until I see it for myself. What about you guys? Does your significant other have a say in your wardrobe choices? Do you trust their opinion no matter what or take it with a grain of salt?

I love the Western vibe of this outfit. The dress reminds me of my Rocky Mountain roots, and with the boots and belt I feel positively cowgirl. These boots are one of those wardrobe staples that have more than proved their purchase price. I couldn't possibly calculate the "price-per-wear" of these babies, that's how often I bust them out once the weather takes a turn. I also really love this leather/canvas belt from Target, especially the way the canvas part subtly stretches as I gorge myself on pastries, chips, delicious salsa, and pumpkin beer.
