But You Ain't Been Right Yet

These boots were so totally made for walking. Specifically, I think they were made for walking in Chicago winters. The lug sole has the most marvelous tread, and they look cute with dresses and are wide enough to tuck pants into. As much as I love my snowboots, and as handy as they are on supremely blizzardy days, I think these puppies are going to be dragged out much more often for day-to-day use.

I got my hairs trimmed the day before I wore this outfit, and I was totally feeling the androgynous, menswear/boarding-school-uniform vibe. I like how it turned out, but I wish that this sweater vest was a bit more fitted. I kind of felt like there was just a lot of fabric up top, and while the AA mini balanced it out, it wasn't my favorite.

And ah! It's Wednesday! I have a dinner date in Chinatown tonight with an old friend, and I still have so much to accomplish before the weekend! Wish me luck!

It's Tuesday and I'm already tired! I feel like I have a mountain of things to accomplish this week, and I have the sneaking suspicion that sleep is what will be sacrificed in order to get it all done. But there's a lot of fun on the horizon, too. I'm having dinner with a dear friend tomorrow, and then the 2nd annual blogger Christmas brunch is on Saturday! And next week I'll be cooling my heels in sunny Arizona. So a few days of cray-cray is totally okay.

This was my Saturday outfit. I was cozy, and I loved the kind of quirky proportions that the belted sweater and full skirt created. This little cropped sweater (which I got from H&M for $9!) is my new go-to layering piece. It's a wool mix so it's super warm and soft and cozy, and I love how it looks layered over a dress. Please plan on getting sick of it this winter (though I'm sure I won't!).

Also, thanks for all your kind wishes about my icy fall in yesterday's post! I'm fine, though I am extremely sore this morning!

Let's Move Fast

Happy freezing cold Monday! I'm hoping to have a fast, productive, cozy, wintry week, followed by a delightfully wonderful weekend. Then I'm heading south for the holidays. I'll be gone for over ten days, and I haven't yet decided what to do about the blog. Chances are good I'll just shut it down while I'm away and take a bit of an internet break. Will you be blogging over the holidays?

This weekend was actually really lovely. I got a lot of work done, which I honestly wasn't expecting, and I managed to still take time to relax and have fun. I ate well, started knitting again, got all cozy with some spiked hot chocolate, and spent most of both Saturday and Sunday parked in front of the window watching this crazy winter storm roll through.

I took these pictures on Sunday morning on my way to the store for coffee, though I actually wore the outfit on Friday. I wore a bright yellow cardigan the last time I wore this dress, too, and I just loved the color combination, so I busted out my new-to-me cableknit beauty to pair with it this time around. I got this sweater in Boston at the Garment District, and I'm just obsessed with how bright and warm and wonderful it is. I can't wait to style it with other outfits this winter!

Also, literally seconds after taking these pictures, as soon as I had my cozy coat on again, I totally biffed it on the ice. It was one of those no-holds-barred, flailing kinds of falls, where my feet just flew out from under me and I landed on my butt, with a good side of whiplash thrown in. I was glad it was early morning in the courtyard, since I don't think anyone saw me, but I'm pretty sore this morning, and have a righteous bruise on my hip. Yay, winter!

Knot

This is an image that I've done before, and today I was working on a variation of it (an added character in the mix), but I ended up simply recreating the previous one but with a different mood. Which image is better I ask myself. The other is prettier maybe, but is so straightforward, I dunno. I like the way this seems more candid.

As I looked at the previous time I posted these characters (two years ago), I saw that I had 28 comments about it. Twenty-eight!  There were many times that I'd get over 40 comments, not counting my own. It's interesting these days, I get as many visitors, but not as many comments, and I think that's due to a couple of things-

1. My presence on Facebook and Twitter has led to people giving feedback there.

2. I think after a while, a reader can only say "great work" or "love it" so many times. Pretty soon they just comment when they feel they have something to add to the conversation, or when they have something witty to say, and that takes more time than most of us have.

3. I don't usually follow up on comments here anyway (what a jerk!). Every once in a while I'll say a "Thanks all!", but although I read all the comments, replying takes energy which I don't have. Sort of rude? Probably. That's what I would think.

4. I don't ask questions or opinions of my visitors. Most times I'm not touching on some hot topic that we need to debate. That's just not what this blog is about, is it?
To those of you who like to comment- thank you, of course. To others who just like to pop in and see what I'm doing lately, that's cool too. I will keep making things for people to see either way.

edit- This isn't a request somehow for more comments! After rereading it, maybe it could come across that way, but I'm more than happy with however many I get. No pity-party for me, thanks! There are a few great blogs out there that I visit which sometimes don't get any, so I'm more than happy with how things are.

Casual weekend
Sweater: thrifted * Skinny cargo pants: Old Navy, remixed * Snowboots: thrifted

It's snowing today. Like, snowing. Like, stay-inside-all-day-and-drink-tea-and-cocoa snowing. Which is kind of, if not entirely, awesome. I've got my cozy sweater, my tall socks, and a clean, quiet apartment in which I plan to spend my day. I'm going to knit, watch the final season of Lost, read Ulysses (I'm working so hard, you guys!), and eat leftover Korean jap chae. Then I might take a nap. Crazy plans, I tell ya.

Snowboots!

Going into my fourth winter in Chicago, I realized that I really ought to get a pair of proper snowboots. I was entirely unwilling to drop more than $20 on a pair of boots, so I was thrilled when I came across these lovely fleece-lined waterproof puppies at Unique a couple of weeks ago. Perfect for a snowy weekend. Though the only use I'll get out of them today is for my quick jaunt to the store this morning for coffee. I'm all about staying inside for the day, but let's face it, I have priorities.
