As I'm Walking Away

Ah, Monday. I desperately, desperately wanted to sleep in this morning, drink coffee with Joe and snuggle up for an epic movie marathon (I was leaning towards all three LOTR movies, but I'm not picky. I would have been happy with anything over 2 1/2 hours and featuring majorly overdone battle sequences). That was not on the docket, however. Maybe for Memorial Day. I think I can wait a couple of weeks...

Anyway, this is actually what I wore yesterday. Remember those awesome Sunday plans I mentioned having? Well, yesterday I met up with my buddy Emily (of Sartoriography, a super-rad Chicago-based style blog) to do some wandering, photo-taking, thrifting, and eating (seriously, any outing with me must involve food. This is non-negotiable). Anyway, we had an awesome time, got lots of sweet loot for super cheap, and explored a sweet new part of Chicago.

Yeah, so how perfect is this photoshoot location?? It can be really hard to find unoccupied green space in Chicago. I go to the lake shore pretty often to take my photos, but I always want to find good spots in the city to take pictures. I'm far too chicken to do downtown shots the way that Gina does (plus, I'm very rarely in the Loop, so that wouldn't be too practical anyway). But Emily and I found the best little hill over by a fave thrift shop, complete with perfect city skyline in one direction and fabulously proletarian factory in the other. Also complete with delinquent teenagers (you can see them jumping around on the concrete in the background), but let's just pretend that they're not there, 'kay? Anyway, Emily and I had the most fun taking pictures up here, despite the mad gusts of wind that kept threatening to choke me with my own necklace.

Gah! Look how excited we are!

It was seriously such a great Sunday, and I felt so cool and comfortable in my outfit (also a bit like I should join a '50s street gang with my rolled up pants and crisp white shirt, snappin' my way through the neighborhood). I love this lace overlay t-shirt, and I was really happy how it came together with the high-rise jeans and gold necklace. My work is pretty laid-back and casual, and we don't really have much of a dress code, but I hesitate to wear jeans to the office anyway, so I have to take what I can get over the weekend. My boss is always pretty put-together, but my coworkers wear jeans, sneakers, sandals, etc. It seems fine, but I have a bit of a mental barrier with my work wardrobe. I need to have a sartorial division between the different parts of my life. If I wore jeans and sneakers to work, I would never feel the wonderful satisfaction of wearing jeans on the weekend. In any case, it was really nice wearing jeans yesterday, and I'm already thinking of other outfits to put together around these high-rise skinnies.

What about you? Do you have a work vs. play wardrobe? Is it required by your office dress code, or are your regulations self-imposed?
