Striped shirt: Old Navy, remixed * Dress, worn as skirt: thrifted, remixed * Two-tone brogues: UO, remixed * Belt: F21, remixed * Necklace: Noble Town Vintage, won from Orchid Grey giveaway!
Okay, first up: sorry for the weird lighting and wonky photo quality. All of the pictures we took were super washed-out, and these are only as good as they are because of extensive tinkering. Which is really too bad, because this is one of my favorite outfits so far this spring. Not only does it accomplish my insatiable desire to wear stripes, but it incorporates my new favorite shoes, and I'm pretty sure that this silhouette does wonders for my short-torsoed, wide-waisted body. So please, please excuse the fact that in some of these pictures you can't even tell that I'm wearing stripes. I'll do better next time, I promise!
The real star of this outfit, though, and the piece that I think brings it all together, is this amazing necklace from Noble Town Vintage. They have a beautiful Etsy shop, with gorgeous vintage and upcycled (my new favorite word!), and stunning jewelry. I actually won a gift certificate to Noble Town Vintage in a giveaway sponsored by one of my favorite bloggers, Julie of Orchid Grey. I picked out two gorgeous necklaces, each made from pieces of vintage necklaces that Noble Town Vintage refashioned into the new pieces. This one has a vintage gold mesh braid on a long chain, and I couldn't love it more. The simplicity and quirkiness of the necklace is so perfect! The best part about all of this is that I won the giveaway on my birthday, so it was like the internet was giving me an awesome birthday present!
Also, I'm glad you guys all responded so well to my new shoes, because you should probably expect to see a lot of them in the coming months. Speaking of shoes, have you all been reading the shoe care posts that Sara (of the awesomely fashionable blog, Orchids in Buttonholes) has been writing this week? She has a seriously enviable shoe collection, and has some great tips on how to fit your shoes, plus general care and maintenance tips. I am totally going to be using some of these on my new leather two-tone brogues, 'cause I want these puppies to last a long time. I've already found some super low-cut sock thingies (I really don't know what to call them), that keep blisters and sweatiness at bay when wearing closed-toed shoes in the hotter months. They will definitely be in heavy rotation as the days get warmer.
Do you guys have any fool-proof footwear tips? Do you use inserts? Blister-proof sticks? Moleskin? How do you transition from the protective socks and tights of the winter months to the bare-skin sandals in the spring and summer?
