So every year that I live in Chicago, I forget about how unbelievably green it gets during the spring and summer. Winter is so dreary and gray, and although autumn is colorful, it doesn't have the vibrant verdancy (yes, "verdancy" is a word. It means "greenness", according to Merriam Webster. And yes, this is the second day in a row that I've talked about etymology on this blog) that spring and summer have. There's just something so alive about this particular shade of green; perhaps it's because it is the shade of green that indicates that things are just starting to grow again and cast off the deadly shackles of winter (my, I'm getting verbose in this post!). In any case, I love the color of this time of year.
It's also the perfect color scheme for wearing subdued neutrals. Had I worn this particular outfit in winter, I would have positively blended into my surroundings. But the washed-out colors of this tunic and blazer just pop against the vast greenness of the park. I like how the dark pants mirror the tree trunks, too (yes, I am putting altogether too much thought into how this all goes together). In any case, I'm a big fan of this outfit for the way that it complements my surroundings. It doesn't hurt that it is one of the comfiest combinations ever, either. Although it's warm as can be in Chicago this week, my office is cool and air conditioned, so I appreciate having another layer, and this blazer is perfect. It's actual part of a two-piece skirt suit, and while I've worn the suit as a whole a few times, I've gotten much more mileage out of each piece separately. I've loved getting more wear out of my suit jackets now that blazers are so trendy as casual layering pieces. Do you guys wear your suits as separates?
