This weekend I was in the lovely state of Washington with my lovely family celebrating my sister's birthday, graduation from college, and, of course, Mother's Day. We were lucky enough to have sunny skies and warm temps all weekend. It was great to celebrate and see the family (and meet my sister's wonderful boyfriend!), but it's nice to be home in the Windy City.
Outfit details:
Gray patterned tank: Old Navy
White cardigan: TJ Maxx
Jeans: Old Navy, remixed here and here
Orange sandals: Clarks, remixed
Purse: gift
Sunglasses: Baker's
Where:
Exploring Spokane with the family, celebrating my little sis's 22nd (O.M.G!!) birthday
This outfit, for starters, was comfy, comfy comfy! Those of you who know me know how important comfort is for my wardrobe. I knew we'd be doing a lot of walking and exploring, so I wanted to not be worrying about a skirt or flowy fabrics that might bunch or be uncomfortable. This was just the ticket, AND it gave me an excuse to wear my favorite sandals again!!
Outfit details:
Dress: gift, originally Macy's
Earrings: market somewhere
Boots: Kmart
Brown tights (not pictured): ??
Where:
Fancy dinner for sister's birthday, followed by dessert reception for the graduates
Okay, so I have to admit that I cheated with this picture. This evening was so busy that I really didn't have time to take a picture of my outfit. There are a couple of headshots but they really didn't do justice to this wonderful mod shift dress. So while I unpacked this afternoon I took the opportunity to slip it on and took this picture. Silly, I know, but it will have to work.
My mom got me this dress last Spring before I went to see Wicked with Joe and another friend. I don't wear it often enough, but I love its mod print and cut. It was a blast playing dress-up all weekend!

Tights: Urban Outfitters
Black ballerina flats: Target, remixed here and here

Champagne breakfast for the graduates
My sister's graduation weekend, unlike either of mine, was chock-full of fancy-pants events. On top of the commencement itself, and the reception following, there was a dessert reception and a champagne breakfast. All of these were at least nice-ish, so I packed a lot of dresses and more formal attire. It seemed overwhelming during the packing process, but I actually really enjoyed all the dressing up, since I never do it on my own.
This dress (and entire outfit, except with navy peep-toe heels instead of the black flats) was what I wore for Valentine's Day this year as well. I love the material, pattern, cut...everything, and I was happy to get to wear it again!

Okay, I know, I know. You've seen this one before. But I loved it so much that I had to wear it again, and it seemed like a perfectly appropriate graduation ensemble. So here it is in all its flowy glory again.
p.s. Sorry about this picture. It was the best I had of just me, but I think I'm in the process of making my sister put on her grad cap. Silly.
Outfit details:
Tank: thrifted, originally Old Navy
Maroon zip-up cardigan: gift
Multicolor/brown scarf: gift, bought in Italy, remixed
Navy jersey skirt: Old Navy
Boots: Kmart
Beaded leather cuff: gift from Joe's mom, remixed
Where:
The airplane!!!
I was thinking about posting a "how-to pack for a graduation weekend" tutorial a la the gals at Academichic, but I nearly broke out into a cold sweat of panic and stress during my packing endeavor. It turned out alright, but not worthy of a tutorial, for sure.
What is worth noting, however, is the magic of jersey for plane rides. I wore this outfit on both travel days (although this picture was taken after getting home today), and I think I've found my perfect travelling ensemble! It's comfy, cute, and easy with security and warmth in the airports and planes. Success!!
