Today was a good day. I am going to Washington tomorrow to see my baby sister graduate from college (O. M. G.) so I'll be out of commission for a few days. Joe and I decided to take the day off together and hang out before I leave. We enjoyed a tastilicious breakfast at our fave pancake house, and then thrifted our little hearts out in Wicker Park...we toted two bags full of used books home. I'd call that a success!!

This necklace is, in a word, awesome. Joe's mom, a few months ago, gave me this Frida Kahlo pin. I loved it, but the problem was that I never wear pins (or brooches, or anything like that...something I'd like to try changing sometime soon), so it sat idly on my bedstand for months. I'd been meaning to officially convert it into a necklace but never made the time. So this morning I decided to do it, but still didn't really have necklace-makin' materials. So I just pinned it over an elastic hairband that also sits idly on my bedstand now that my hair is so short. Result? An awesome Frida Kahlo choker necklace that matches with both my shirt and shoes! Success!!

While my mom was in town we visited Marshall Fields (a must for Chicago shoppers!)...and yes, I still, and will always, call it Marshall Fields instead of Macy's. She was shoe-shopping, and I was shoe-drooling. I saw this perfect pair of orange Clarks sandals and almost died. I withheld on that trip, but subsequently went back to take a peek while I was shopping for interview suits. Lo and behold! they were on sale. So I bit the bullet (although it was a 25% smaller bullet!) and did it...and they were still under $50, so I'm calling it one big fat orange success. I love them. I mean L.O.V.E. THEM.
