You know why I love the 30 for 30 challenge? I would never have worn this outfit without it. Not to say that this is an unappealing combination, but it simply wouldn't have sprung into being without the challenge. But with my 30 pieces staring me down everyday, new and unexpected combinations seem to be constantly born. And this particular outfit turned into one of my favorite outfits yet, not just in the challenge, but in recent memory. It's soft, it's flattering, it's warm, and it incorporates some of my favorite colors.
Joe took these pictures at the halfway point of our long walk on Saturday afternoon. We strolled for over an hour up and down the lake shore path, appreciating the warmer temperatures and admiring the melting snow. We talked a lot about some exciting things that are happening with Joe's career right now. He has a few big things coming up in the next month or so, and needless to say, I'm very proud of all that he's accomplished and all that he will do in the coming years. It's exciting to hear about and even more exciting to be a part of.
While the long-distance aspect of our relationship has been an easier transition than I had expected, one of the things that I miss the most are conversations like the one we had during our walk. We're admittedly not great with the phone stuff, and so it's rare that phone conversations will end up being very in-depth or insightful. And our best conversations are always had suddenly, without planning, as we take a walk or play a game or cook a dinner. And those are things that simply can't happen with a phone call. Those conversations, and those overlapping interests, are what got us hooked on each other in the first place, so it's hard for both of us to go so long without them. I'm so excited for the day when those moments are no longer few and far between.
On a much sillier note, can we agree that this stick is rad? I saw it, and knew it would make a supremely badass and hilarious prop, so I had to bust it out for a few snaps. Whaddaya think? I think I should walk tall and carry a big stick every day.
Also, you guys, I am so happy that the weather has finally turned. We spent a lot of time outside this weekend, and I just couldn't help but look up at the sky and smile at the sun beaming on my face and the warmth radiating from it (please excuse the fact that the sun is not actually shining in these pictures. It was earlier in the day, but had clouded over by the time we took our walk). I've never been so happy to put away my big down coat and don my light gloves. It's been a particularly rough winter this year, extra cold and extra snowy, and I'm so happy for a respite from it, however brief it may be.
Y'all. What is UP with my hair??!?
I'm sorry this post is so heavy on the pictures, and still so disjointed in the writing. I'm still in a bit of a weekend delirium, and am slow and reluctant to admit that it's Monday. I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Since Joe and I accidentally celebrated Valentine's Day on Saturday, I'm hoping that today is just an easy, stress-free Monday.
Happy Valentines day, peeps! Anyone else suffering from a weekend hangover?
