Take Your Quotation Marks Away

I was basking in the land of neutrals yesterday. I just couldn't force myself to reach for anything other than subdued shades of brown and olive, though I did force my own hand when it came to the pumps. I love the result, and it looked much sassier and lovely in person than came across on film. Outside pictures would have been better, of course, but with the windchill factor it's been less than pleasant to be outside lately.

Actually, because of the frigid temps, I'm particularly happy that I decided to do the 30 for 30 challenge this time around. When it gets particularly uncomfortably cold, I tend to err on the side of ill-fitting pants (with room for silk long-johns!) and a sweater. I forgo all accessories, and refuse to infuse my outfits with any ounce of creativity, for fear that it will hinder my warmth-seeking self. But I obviously didn't include any ill-fitting pants in my 30 for 30 (wisely, I think), so I'm forced to double up on tights, think about layers, and appreciate my personal style, even on the coldest of days.

Sorry for the thinner-than-usual posts this week. I've felt tired and a bit overwhelmed, and have had trouble coming up with those pesky things known as words. I think Joe is coming to Chicago this weekend, which gets me off the hook for driving, and maybe it means I'll get a little much-needed R&R with mah man. It also means I don't have to dig my car out from a giant block of ice when it's -10 degrees outside, so I think I'm cool with it.

What do you do to stay stylish in the cold weather? For those of you doing the 30 for 30, did you pick the right pieces for the cold (and snow)? Are you a cold-weather-ill-fitting-pants-wearer, like me?
