She Always Stood Her Ground

It's effing Friday! This week has been blindingly busy and crazy, and I just can't wait to have a couple of days off. I actually have tons to do this weekend, so it probably won't be the most relaxing, but it's still two days of sleeping a bit later, lingering over my coffee, and spending a bit of time outside in the sun. I'm trying to make it out of town a bit early today, as Joe is giving a talk this afternoon that I'd really like to go to. I don't often get a chance to see him in his professional setting, so I'm looking forward to seeing him in his element and cheering him on from the back of the room.

On a totally unrelated note, all this stuff going on in the Wisconsin legislature this week has stoked the fire of my commie, pro-labor side. I don't often talk about my politics here, and since it's Friday I don't really plan to go into it now, but I'm outraged that the state government in Wisco is trying to prohibit public employees from organizing. Regardless of your personal stance on labor unions (I readily admit that I'm on the fence about their effectiveness and usefulness), I don't think it's the place of the government to tell anyone that they can't organize.

Have you been following this? I know that a lot of you are graduate students, who, in this case, will be particularly affected by the new legislation, or union workers yourselves. What are your thoughts so far?
