Thanks for letting me take the day "off" yesterday! It was nice doing some reflection, and focusing on the words and ideas of people much more eloquent than I. Work has been mentally exhausting lately. We have a few major projects going on right now, so by the time I get home from work I'm simply woofed. Yesterday, at least, the thought of writing or thinking any more than I already had that day was just too much for me. I'm feeling a bit better today, but not by much, so this post might be kind of all over the place. For some reason, when I focus so hard all day, I tend to feel extraordinarily spastic when I get home. Right now, for example. I have Braveheart playing in the background while I answer emails, upload photos, measure my swap clothes, eat Valentine's Day chocolate, drink an IPA, and catch up on my day's blog reads. After all the stress of the day, the last thing I want to do is focus. I want, nay, need, my attention to be all over the place, so evenings like this do just the trick. Of course, with all that stimulation, it's often kind of hard for me to go to bed, so I'll have to start scaling down pretty soon, so that by the time the movie's over I can relax and curl up under the covers. What do you guys do when you're having a rough week? Do you do best with a glass of wine and a good book, or are you like me, filling your evenings with various hyperactive distractions?
Now, on to the outfit. Ah, this outfit! I loved this outfit in the planning stages, while I had it on, and especially now that I see it in photos. This skirt is a recent acquisition from Forever 21. I try to steer clear of some of their clothing because, let's be honest, it's kind of poorly made, so even if it's cheap it just doesn't last long enough to enjoy. Don't get me wrong, I majorly stock up on their accessories and jewelry (this scarf being a case in point), but I think long an hard before buying any clothes. But holy balls I love this skirt. The pattern is exactly what I've been looking for in a spring/summer print, and I know it will transition beautifully into fall next season (yes, I do plan that far ahead when I buy stuff. When you live in a climate that has 9 months of winter and 3 months of summer, it's important to know that something's gonna last into the colder months). I felt like it was a bit short for work today, so I layered my trusty tan skirt underneath to add length and brightness to the bottom of the outfit. Funnily enough, I also had a slip on underneath all of that, so I had a whopping three layers on the bottom half of my outfit today, not including the tights or lining of the skirt! I also really like how I stuck to one color/pattern scheme today. I almost wore a teal blouse to play up the teal from the skirt, but at the last minute I switched to black and I'm so glad I did. It kept the rest of the outfit simple, slimming, and sleek.
Thanks for all your sweet comments about my haircut the other day! I love it at this length, and I'm glad you all seem to agree. It was so funny to read some of your comments about the magic (or evil) of haircut day. We seem to be a pretty divided bunch, with some of us swearing by its miraculous healing powers, and others damning it's self-esteem-destroying nature. To those of you that hate haircut day, I say to you: find a stylist that you love! It can make all the difference in the world to have someone that truly knows what they're doing.
I also just want to thank you all for hanging out with me over here on the interwebs. Your comments and questions and emails lately have been so wonderful and touching, and have truly reminded me of why I do this (p.s. Christina at Second Skin posted a truly insightful post about why we blog...check it out if you haven't already!). I feel like true relationships have been forged here, and I can't tell you how much I wish that some of you lived in the Chicago area. We could totally hang out (and for those of you who do live in the Chicago area, let's get our rears in gear, ladies! Can't wait to see you gals again!). Thanks for being my BFOTIBNIAWW (best friends on the internet but not in a weird way)!
