Home for Easter celebratin'!
So as I mentioned in my previous post, Joe and I instituted a no-computer mandate on Easter. Neither of us actually observe/celebrate Easter, but we thought it was still a great excuse to relax and appreciate what's important. In our effort to spend more time together without the help of technology, we mired ourselves in a day of baking. And then more baking. And when we ran out of things to bake, we baked some more.
What did we bake? Inspired by Cupcakes and Cashmere's post about making cupcakes on Easter, we decide to do the same. The end result is over 2 dozen frosted spring-colored cupcakes adorning the counters of our kitchen. So many, in fact, that I'm bringing some to work on Monday. I haven't handed out cupcakes to my peers since elementary school, so we'll see how that goes.
My truly favorite Easter treat, however, is my grandma's recipe for Easter bread. As a proud Catholic Italian-American, measuring in at 4'6", Nani was the best darn baker I've yet to come across, and her Easter bread was to die for. Interpreting her handwritten recipes, however (anywhere between 5 and 18 cups of flour, with other illegible notes), involved me being on the phone with my mom for most of the morning. The final 3 loaves were perfect; moist and delicious. Happy Spring, everyone!
